A USCF Tournament Director (TD) is a US Chess-sanctioned official who manages rated chess tournaments. TDs are certified to ensure that each tournament has a qualified director(s).
There are different levels of TDs:
Club TDs can host events of up to 50 players, or, with an assistant and a computer, they can host an event of up to 60 players.
Local TDs can host an event of up to 100 players, or, with an assistant and a computer, they can host an event of up to 120 players.
Senior TDs can host an event of up to 300 players, or, with an assistant and a computer, they can host an event of up to 360 players.
Associate National TDs have a limitation that they can’t be Chief TD of a tournament that awards a national title and averages 150 players in the previous 5 years, plus the U.S. Championship events (invitational).
National TDs can host an event of any size or format.
